Let's talk indie games!

Hello indie game fans!

I'm dragging myself away from Stardew Valley to bring you this months email. I hadn't played it in five years, and now it's all I've played in the last week (or more). There is just so much more to do and find since I last played!

​Another Crab's Treasure has been calling but Stardew continues to win the battle. I plan on marrying Harvey, just in case you wanted to know. I've never married him before because, well, he just seems a bit dull. Hopefully, this playthrough changes my mind! Have you married him before? Do you have a favourite love interest?

So, you might think I'll be talking about Stardew for this entire email, but I did manage to look at all the amazing game releases happening this month (May 9th is a big one!) and choose my top three. I also got to play Botany Manor before Stardew got me in its claws.

Recently I've been playing... Botany Manor

At first glance, Botany Manor is a simple and beautiful walking sim about cataloguing flowers.

However, delve a little deeper and you’ll find that our protagonist Arabella Greene is actually quite badass!

As it turns out, Arabella isn’t married and she has no children. So scandalous! At least in Victorian England, where Botany Manor is set.

I really enjoyed this about Botany Manor. It was refreshing to play as an older woman living an unusual lifestyle for her time period. Arabella has achieved a lot in her time and has an awesome friend group for support. So cool to see in a video game!

Obviously, there is also botany and a manor in this game and you'll get to explore the grounds extensively trying to decipher how the plants grow and flower.

May new releases

​Brocula​ 8th May Brocula looks like such a fun and quirky life sim! Brocula has just awoken from a 500 year slumber to a world he doesn't recognise. He's broke and his castle is in ruins. So he needs to take on part time jobs to reclaim and restore it. This looks like such a great twist on life sims!

​Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II​ 21st May This definitely not a cosy game, nor is it combat free, but it is one of my most anticipated games on the year! Senua's story continues (go play Hellblade if you haven't yet!) as she takes another brutal journey through Viking Iceland, fighting darkness both physical and mental.

​Fabledom​ 13th May 1.0 Fabledom is a fairytale city builder with an option to be combat free! I don't know about you, but I hate losing all my progress in builders. Build your village into a kingdom with the help of a little diplomacy with your neighbours. Maybe you'll even find love with a neighbouring monarch.

Less than 10 - Conversation with a Rock

Conversation with a Rock has more than 10 reviews now, but I still wanted to feature it because it's an excellent example of how varied indie games are. Indie games are strange and wonderful and there is something for everyone.

Conversation with a Rock is a an opportunity to experience a conversation with a lovely rock. Each game is less than 5 minutes long and with more than 150 choices, you can have all different things to ponder on.

​Conversation with a Rock is available for free on Steam and definitely worth just a few minutes of your time.
